Speech Therapy X Respectful Discipline

Being a speech language therapist who practices respectful parenting at home means that I treat my clients the way I interact with Alexis. Sometimes that means I appear more "soft" than other teachers/therapists. I am in no way fierce. To be honest, I just cannot bear to be fierce. It is against my principles to scare a child into submission. Yes, I will be firm when necessary. And very often I do have to keep firm boundaries. However the firmness is always directed at a child's behaviour, not the child.
